Summer Sailstice – What a day!

Sail Solomons celebrated the Summer Sailstice with a Sail-Aweigh and raft-up, an exhilarating race home and BBQ to follow!

Crews met at 9 am for a breakfast Captains’ meeting.  Five boats (2 cruisers & 3 daysailors) made best use of the light southerly winds for a leisurely downwind sail up the Patuxent River, and rafted up for lunch and a swim on Mill Creek. Crews took the “Sailstice Challenge” quiz, testing their seamanship and local knowledge.

Winds picked up beautifully for the afternoon, and we raced hard to windward against 15-18 kt southeasterly winds. Catalina 22 Zephyr was first over the line, and all boats performed brilliantly.  For several crews, it was their first sailing race!

Back at homeport, we presented awards and enjoyed a terrific BBQ dinner, as the sun set on another perfect day in Solomons, Maryland!  See the slideshow at: Sailstice Photos.
