Instructor Courses

Sailing since 1988

A very special group of sailors feel the need to share their knowledge and love of sailing with others through sailing instruction. To become qualified as a Certified Sailing Instructor, the American Sailing Association establishes national standards and trains Instructor Evaluators who are qualified to test and train new instructors on their behalf.

Should you wish to become a Certified Sailing Instructor, an Instructor Evaluator will test your professional knowledge and sailing skills applicable to a particular course and presentation techniques relevant to a classroom environment at an Instructor Qualification Clinic (IQC). You should be aware that this is demanding clinic and will thoroughly test your skills and knowledge. There is much preparatory work to be done beforehand. Having passed, you will be pleased to have reached a level of sailing which few sailors achieve.

Once qualified, ASA certified sailing instructors have proven they measure up to a national standard, which is used by more than 90% of the commercial sailing schools in the country. You will then have a ticket to teach for ASA schools and become a professional sailor, getting paid to do what you do best!

Sail Solomons has a resident Qualified Instructor Evaluator who is able to test and qualify instructor candidates on site in Solomons. Instructor courses currently available run from 201-206 and 218. If you feel you are ready to take the challenge and step up to be an instructor or just want to improve your sailing skills, then this is the course for you.

Please contact Sail Solomons for further information and dates of courses.
